On Today's Show: Guest co-host Laura Ingraham; guest James Brolin

Hosts at the table: Whoopi, Joy, Sherri, Elisabeth
Talk show host Laura Ingraham is a guest co-host for today’s show. Laura is a right wing radio talk show host. Laura started off with a dig to Joy, saying this was the first time Joy has spoken to her this morning. She also made the comment that not even Joy is abandoning the Obama’s. Joy’s reply was “Never”. Hasselbeck sarcastically said “That’s disheartening” Pot. Kettle. Bush?

Whoopi then tersely transitioned to the first “hot topic”, discussing the news that Bristol Palin and Levi Johnston have reconciled and are reportedly engaged. Apparently their parents did not know and were breaking the news to them in the magazine. Joy said she thought grizzlies knew where their cubs were all the time. Laura called that an attack on Palin and said the news was lovely. Hasselbeck is concerned, citing the things Levi said in the past and him leaving. Speaking from personal experience, Sherri said it happens after spending Thanksgiving together and putting the baby to sleep and you look at each other. Joy thinks this is all political and suggested they are doing this for Palin’s 2012 presidential run. Laura said it’s best for the child’s parents to be together. Whoopi disagreed, saying there are some parents that are not good to their children.

The next topic of the day was Radar Online releasing even more audio of Mel Gibson’s violent rants towards his ex, Oksana. People are investing possible domestic violence charges and articles are pointing out Mel admitting he is bipolar and manic depressive. Hasselbeck said it points to the question of culpability and what you’re responsible for if you have an illness like that. Sherri asked if it was proven would Mel get a lighter sentence. Laura seemed to blame him having several children and leaving his ex wife on the narcissism of Hollywood. Sherri said it’s the stability of marriage that keeps you grounded. Laura questioned why Oksana would release the tapes [she secretly recorded]. Sherri said she did not release them, her lawyer did. Joy suggested Oksana did not think she’d have help in law enforcement, citing a line in a movie; “He owns the police!” Whoopi took issue with that, definitively saying “Mel doesn’t own the police.” Laura insisted Mel is talented but got sucked into the narcissism of Hollywood and believed his own press.
Whoopi then took the chance to defend herself for defending Mel and his racist rants. She said if bloggers and people who don’t have anything to do had actually watched the show, we would have heard her say she doesn’t condone this. She also said being a black woman, you’d at least give her credit for having some feel whether she was around a racist. Whoopi said that’s fine, but people have called her office and went off on the person answering the phone, chided them for doing what was “supposedly” done by Mel and then told them to kiss her behind. She then said people should not be a coward dog mess and at least she says what she feels on camera. Whoopi continued, saying if she’s in her car and you cut her off, she becomes a racist and anyone who has never done that gets the right to cast the first stone. (I’m picking up my rock now).

After break, Laura began discussing her book. She then started talking negatively about Michelle Obama, prompting Whoopi to ask if Michelle was any different than other First Ladies who have had pet projects. Laura then talked about the strolls in the White House lawns and bought up people’s obsessions with Michelle’s arms and her fitness. Joy shot back, “Someone’s jealous of her arms…”Sherri said we’ve been obsessed with something about every president’s wife and said Michelle has always exercised. Hasselbeck said we should be focusing on what her husband is not doing. Joy mentioned how Laura Bush never blinked or spoke in 8 years and Laura had the nerve to say that was a nasty remark. Sherri called her out for that, to which Ingraham responded it wasn’t and the White House would have to answer whether what is said in the book is true or not. Laura then pulled out a book titled “The Behar Diaries”. She started to read from it but Whoopi cut to commercial. Thank you, Whoopi

The French Parliament voted to ban women from wearing burqas. Supporters of the ban say face coverings are not consistent with the French values of female equality. Ingraham agrees with this ban and would like to see it in the U.S, saying we live in a culture here where it’s important to our way of life to see each others eyes. Joy thinks it’s wrong to do that, saying people really want their religious freedom and people should be allowed to wear a star, cross or burqa.

A school board in Helena, Montana is voting on the proposed new sex education curriculum for students K-12 Sherri started reading off the terms for genitalia they would be taught according to their age level, as well as the sexual information they would be given. Whoopi asked Sherri if her son knows the correct term for his gentile. Sherri said as his mother, Jeffrey does not need to say the word “penis” and she has him call it “wee-wee”. Hasselbeck said it’s up to the parents to teach their child. Joy recounted a time when she was at the beach with her daughter and they saw a picture of a lion mounting his mate. Joy’s daughter asked if when Joy’s and her now ex-husband would do it, would they say “rrrowwww”.

James Brolin was the first guest. Along with Dr. William Lewis and Producer Diane Kirman, James is executive producer of the movie “Standing Ovation”. Described as an equivalent to "Junior High School Musical", “Standing Ovation” is a positive tale of perseverance and passion and features 20 original songs and 13 never-before-seen dance numbers that showcase a cast of talented young newcomers as they learn the importance of loyalty, friendship and family on a journey to fulfilling their dreams. It features actors, singers, songwriters, dancers, gymnasts and musicians from Philadelphia, Atlantic City and the surrounding areas, and reveals the undiscovered talent and drive of the East Coast's youth. James said there are all types of dancing in the movie and moms and kids will love it. He seemed very enthused about it.
They announced Brolin has been in the business for 40 years and even showed a clip of Brolin in “Marcus Welby, M.D.”! He mentioned how he won an Emmy for that show.
“Standing Ovation” will be in theaters Friday.

Celebrity PR publicist Cindy Berger was the final guest. Cindy guides celebrities on how to do image damage control and happens to be employed by Barbara Walters. She addressed the Mel Gibson stories, saying she doesn’t think the tapes have been authenticated yet and said she would advise him to stay quiet. She also said if that is him, he needs to get medical help right away.
Cindy then talked about Lindsey Lohan, saying thank God the judge gave her jail time. Cindy thinks this will save her life if Lindsey takes it seriously.
She then discussed LeBron James, who just left Cleveland to play for the Miami Heat. Cindy said thinks the announcement of him leaving the Cavs should have been handled differently and had he done so, he thinks things would have been better. She said sports figures want to build fans, not alienate them.

I thought Laura Ingraham was an ok guest co-host. At least she got to participate in the topics, which is not always the case with other guest co-hosts. However, I found her to be overly combative and she seems to have a strange creepy fascination with Michelle Obama. I wonder if it’s jealousy or something else, but she certainly holds her to different standards than prior first ladies.

That concludes today’s show. Don’t forget to sign up for Ebates and get your chance to win an iPod or $25 gift card. It’s quick and easy to join. Contest ends 7/31. Please see this link for details.

Have a great day.

  2. Well, I'm done with TWOP. I'm officially banned. Screw TWOP and their idiot moderators. See, apparently is it ok to have a history of making racist and homophobic statements and to defend the recent Mel Gibson hate rant on TWOP, but if you call those kinds of people out for defending that kind of garbage, you will get warned and then banned.

I'm done. I'm not even going to try to get another log in because that place is just freaking ridiculous. This is like the second time those tyrants banned me and I say screw them.

    This place is cooler anyway!

  8. awww.... poor Mel Gibson

He got divorced which made him lose his mind and start beating his girlfriend. I guess since he has so much money he should be helped and forgiven...... actually, he should be put in jail....... then he could start yelling for freedom.

  10. did i call that or what.

Cross showcased on prominent display. Not that there's anything wrong with that.....it is worn like the others to show - I can say anything I want - and I am wonderful.

Ingraham says Mel is enormously talented. Give me a break - only cuz he made that movie," Passion of the ....they kiss his ass.

  11. Screw you Whoopi....

I am a blogger that WATCHED YOUR SHOW..... and I suppose that if someone speaks about "your people" with the N word..... I guess they would be your buddy.... What was your opinion of Kramer (Michael Richards)..... Maybe Dawg the Bounty hunter is your buddy... David Duke just a misunderstood KKK grand master? These are guys that arent your buddy, that uses the same language as Mel Gibson..... you have criticized others, but your racist friend should get a pass??

Im not surprised Whoopi..... you have admitted to your racist tendencies

  14. Hasselbeck is cockier today with Ingraham there. They have a silent wink wink Fox Girls Club bond thing going on.

Check out EH's body language - more erect and chin up. Like a petulant brat.

  15. Hey Laura Ingram.... screaming and over talking people does not make you more right.

Joy is right, you are making shit up and no one cares what you think.

  16. Mel Gibson has a loooong track record of hate speech. He's homophobic, racist, mysoginistic, and an anti-Semite. I don't think we should give up on anyone and even people like Mel need to be prayed for, but to deny that he is terrible and just full of hate is just ridiculous. It's over for him and he has no one to blame but himself. So what if he's made some great films?! So has Roman Polanski. That doesn't change the fact that he's a child rapist!

    ReplyDelete
  17. Diane that is the BEST part - Hasselbeck isn't part of 'The Club'!! She's a window shopper.

She is DOMINATING that panel. She came to this show with an agenda.

Item #1 - Belittle Joy Behar the Lib. Did you all catch the 2 fingers INgrham just put behind JOys head (going to commercial) - then Joy did it...

INgraham is another FOX BULLY. She is OReilly in drag. Shes Coulter in drag (get that one !) wiht less of an Adams Apple.

SHE IS A GUEST IN THE VIEW HOUSE AND SHE IS SHITTING ON THE CARPET.

  19. itgurl.... So what if he's made some great films?! So has Roman Polanski. That doesn't change the fact that he's a child rapist!

Great point..... Polanski has been released.... he isnt going to be held responsible.... he was supposedly "confined" but during that time he released a movie.

The 13 yr old that he drugged and raped was not his last.... remember Natasha Kinski and her "love affair" with Polanski when she was 15?

This rapist is celebrated and defended..... not enough people are speaking out about him.

  27. Diane,

A LOT of these anti-feminist right wing broads are single and don't have kids. Now, I am liberal and while I plan on having a husband and kids, I don't knock any woman who choses otherwise. But these right wing "family values" nuts who attack women for not knowing their place are hypocrites when they chose to stay single and not procreate. Say what you will about Sarah Palin, but on that front, she does actually practice what they only preach!

The fact is, what man would actually want Ann Coulter or Laura Ingraham. I remember hearing Ingrahm say that she "hated" Michelle Obama before. It was on a clip from her little radio show. And it was sooooo obvious that she is just consumbed by jealousy of Mrs. Obama. A woman with a loving husband, a great career as a lawyer, and two beautiful little girls. She was insanely jealous. And once, when she was on Oreilly's show after he went to the White House and raved on and on about Michelle Obama, Laura told him to can it with the praise and Oreilly told her to her face she was jealous! It was hilarious and the only time I've ever liked Oreilly!

But yeah, they are themselves what the right wing would refer to as inadequate women. If you look it up, a lot of them aren't married and don't have kids.

    ReplyDelete
  28. James Brolin came out.... coldly greeted Elisabeth and Ingram.... barely spoke to Sherri.... hugged Joy and Whoopi..... VERY telling.

He knows who those people are and know they arent worth his time.... but he is not ignoring her during the interview.

  29. I guess Laura Ingram didnt watch the movie she was supposed to be talking about..... No Laura... it isnt a hip hop film.

Didnt she rip on Sherri.... "I guess you didnt read the book"

  30. I didn't realize what a vile, despicable person Laura Ingraham is! Why all the hate for the First Lady when she's trying to do something good for our youth? Jealous? A racist? Not a healthy obsession at any rate.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Hallie.... Why all the hate for the First Lady when she's trying to do something good for our youth?

Because Michelle Obama isnt a Republican.

  32. What I want to know is why are so many people "concerned" about Mel Gibson? There is no redeeming value of people like him. There is a lot more artists out there. Those people should be supported.

Lindsay Lohan is a private citizen..... her going to jail is not relevant to anything. The people that make money off of her story are just as pathetic as the people that enable Lindsay to make the wrong decision..... I dont see the difference.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Totally appreciate what your are saying, itgurl.

Of course I support any woman's choice to marry/ not marry and when - and to have kids or not. My own life in these matters took an unconventional course.

But yes. I am not just taking an easy pot shot at Coulter and Ingraham about their marital state because of their politics. I have long thought that something awry there. I suspect their nastiness goes straight to their hearts and is off-putting for any potential suitors. They are not warm and kind and soft any in way. They are not flexible and receptive - two integral components of attracting and keeping a mate- yet they both wear signs of Christianity like magnificent power shields.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Who was the last intelligent Left wing person that was on The View to talk politics? Biden was on, but he was on because he is in office. The Right is welcome on that show often..... even the celebrities that are on the Left dont talk politics..... This is one reason why Dems are so weak in polls..... the Right voice is too loud and the Left voice is censored and silenced..... that and polls are paid to be controversial.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Goawd - so much more to comment on today:

Sherri admitting on national TV that she tells little Jeffrey to call his penis a "wee wee". Moreover being insistant and emphatic and unabashed about it . And inferring that 'penis' was too nasty for him to say.

Sherri dear, I think the problem is that - the word 'penis' is too nasty for you to hear...ironic as you've seen plenty of them . Ahem.

She sets motherhood back 70 years.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I didn't see the show, but obviously from reading the comments, Whoopi has doubled down on defending Mel. I wonder if she herself is going to face some backlash in the industry for this.

Whoopi is dumb as hell! She's shooting Tyler Perry's "For Colored Girls", a story about the trials and tribulations and survival of black women. Yet, she is defending a racist and mysognist voilent tirade. When that movie comes out, I would hope that she would have to answer some questions about her hypocriy in staring in a movie like that while brushing off Mel's comments are mere boneheaded-ness.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Roger,

Since the View got political, it's always leaned right. Every political topic, no matter how benign, is tilted to make the left look bad. But with BW recuperating, it's been worse than ever.

I would not be surpried if both Geddie and EH were getting paid by some big time tea bagger type conservatives.

  38. Another poke by Ingraham...did anyone catch this?

Re: The kids' dance movie James Brolin was promoting. The clip the showed had groups of kids doing hip hop. Cute. Nothing wrong with that.

Ingraham asked him ' if they do other types of dance in the movie' . It was an od question as Brolin wasn't talking about hip hop at all. Brolin said yes. Ingraham said, " Oh that's good- I am glad to hear that.' And acted relieved. I don't know about anyone else - but I took that as a shot from her about hip hop being ethnically stereotyped.....

  39. Clearly the guest hosts have been tilting right for awhile. And any potential lib is "liberal lite". Meaning: debating issues is not quite their thing. I am telling you that Hal Sparks is terrific at debating the issues on radio with humor and articulate facts galore - yet they had him on with Scarborough and he was a 5th non-entity wheel at the table with little time. Geddie orchestrated that big time even as far as where Hal was positioned at the table.

I retract that when they have Janeane Garafolo, Senator Barbara Boxer, Stephanie Miller, Randi Rhoades, Katrina Vanderhooven, and a returning Rachel Maddow who doesn't talk about her sexuality.

  40. itgurl - TWoP loss is our gain. I saw you 'gently' call neuilly out. Good on you.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Me again. Sorry for so many posts today. Hope you guys don't mind.

As this volatile mid-term election year heats up.....it will be interesting to see if Geddie provides equal guest time for views on both sides - equals in notoriety and brainpower, from both parties, and doesn't try to dupe us into thinking fair and balanced show.

Oh Michelle Bachmann will be on The View with Carrot Top . Carrot is the liberal guest. (don't know if he is - just an example). They will be talking about the socialist healthcare bill and the rising cost of silly props.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Neuilly and others are allowed to spew some hateful crap over there. If you call them out though, it's over for you.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Diane, don't apologize for posting! O:-)

We all love what reading your take on this awful show! LOL

    ReplyDelete
  44. And another thing - Ingraham going after Michelle Obama is the true mark of a bully.

EVERY First Lady has her cause celeb. They are the face of soft, non-controversial issues: Michelle - childhood obesity; Laura Bush - illiteracy, Nancy Reagan - just say no to drugs, Barbara Bush - wear multiple strands of pearls so you don't look like George Washington on the dollar bill. Uh that's my poke.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Diane.... Clearly the guest hosts have been tilting right for awhile. And any potential lib is "liberal lite". Meaning: debating issues is not quite their thing

Thats my point exactly..... Left leaning celebrities arent allowed to talk politics. Id love to see an open debate with Geddie..... his hateful rhetoric would be the end of him.... he is worse than Barbara Walters.... and it is blaring with her absence. Barbara Walters leans Right also, but her "Journalistic Integrity" stops her from fully releasing her inner Right...... although I think that is all that is left of her journalistic integrity

Some organization should really call The View out on their bias..... hold them accountable

    ReplyDelete
  46. Media Matters is the organization to do it. They do keep tally of ratio of left to right on TV - and the statistics are always astoundingly greater on the right.

Christianity is supposed to be about Love.... Laura Ingrahm is all about hate. When you are advertising Christianity symbols at the same time spewing hateful rhetoric, then one must wonder.... does she actually believe the message of Christianity, or is she just using it as a prop.
    Thanks for asking though.

  48. SoyHiHo

Hate speech from the left is just as objectional as hate speech from the right.

Teabaggers are just as offensive. Their signs about guns and killing..... spewing the N word as well as homophobic slurs..... but when all that goes on the Right argues that they have "freedom of speech".... doesnt the New Black Panther Party also have "freedom of speech"??

It would be nice to hear your rebuttal, but it is doubtful that either you or yotambein will stick around to defend your views.

  49. I should have kept on vacuuming this a.m. instead of tuning in to the show.
Next time I'll skip the screaming nitwit Limbaugh wanna-be's. I think I scared my poor dog cause I was yelling at the screen multiple times, starting with Whoopi. When she started dissing the "bloggers who want to have something to do" when they blog about the Mel business, this blogger thinks a great deal less of her. I don't think the person should have called her office and yelled at the assistant, that was classless, but to diss all bloggers is not good.
Laura is a loud mouth screamer and what man would want to put up with that crap?
She and EH would look good in a plastic bag, floating down the Hudson!
    Sealed up real good.
Michele Bachman coming on you say?
That is one in which I will keep on vacuuming....non stop!
Also I haven't heard any "lame libs" screaming diversity. All I hear is the constant complaints of extreme idiots on the right.

    ReplyDelete
  50. I call attention to Ingraham's wearing of the Christian cross because three of the biggest loud mouth hate monger women - - that get regular face time on TV - - just happen to regualarly wear these symbols. They are: Coulter, Ingraham, and Malkin. EH was one of them too. She doesn't wear it much lately.

I am tired of people waving and using recognizable dignified symbols as their personal badges of honor while not living up to what they represent - crosses and flags.

The last bastian of a coward is to hide behind the flag and the cross.

    ReplyDelete
  51. May, I used M Bachmann as a possible guest on The View as an example of one end of right winger extremist getting face time on this show . Bachmann has not been announced as an actual future guest.

  52. Oh, Laura Ingraham has sent listeners from her little show to spew their tea party rhetoric. They'r all obssessed with the black panthers now! LOL.

It's all over Fox and right wing talk radio. Apprently, according to the tea baggers, since the President and First Lady are black, they have an obligation to come out and condemn the black panthers, and organization they have no connection to. Just more of their racist bullcrap that comes from white grievence politics.

This is akin to making GW Bush other white president condemn the Aryan Nation, even though he has nothing to do with them.

    Idiots.

So glad that people who think like this are a far to none.

  53. SouHiHo :

Could you please point me in the direction of this famous liberal media ? I'd like to visit there.I'd like to apply for a job there.

Re: Radio - I just tuned in my AM radio - I found no less than 8 stations broadcasting Rush Limbaugh. I also found: Beck, OReilly, Lars Larson, Grover Norquist, Monica Crowley, Sean Hannity, Michael Savage, Mark Levin, and more. I easily found all those people. Couldn't find one lib. And I' m still turnin' my AM dial.

Re: TV- And before you say Keith and Rachel - get a piece of paper and list out every voice on Fox. You'll need more paper.

Of course, dear little Fox and all their little Foxettes and Foxtrotters. They're foxing.* Ah hem.

I wonder if it’s jealousy or something else, but she [Laura Ingraham] certainly holds her to different standards than prior first ladies.

Well, she did write The Hillary Trap, and went after Mrs. Clinton (now SOS) for NOT being in shape. "Creepy fascination", hmm? Never thought of that term. Not to flatter myself, but I always thought some really close (TOO close) to me had that. I'll 'steal' that phrase next chance!

  59. Laura does have a creepy obsession with Mrs. Obama. As I wrote earlier, it's so bad even Bill O'reilly said she was jealous of Mrs. O. It's soooo obvious. The fact that she's also a racist adds to the hate. She just can't believe this black woman has eveything she'll never have, which is a joyous life. Not to mention toned arms! I mean, that tells you how jealous she is. She tried to go off on Michelle Obama's toned arms. How pathetic!

******Yes, Laura Ingraham has two adopted children, a little girl from Guatemala and a little boy from Russia. I know she was engaged to a business man who later dated Katie Couric. (Also on her list)

Both have opened their mouths and exposed how they really think and the more they say - the more they are ruining their reputations and careers.

In November the Kennedy Center will present Tina Fey with the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor, the nation's most prestigious comedy award. She's the youngest honoree and only the third woman, after Lily Tomlin and Whoopi Goldberg

I forgot about Whoopi also having gotten this honor - on top of her Emmy, Tony, Oscar, Golden Globe - otherwise known as the EGOT.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Correction on the EGOT. G is for Grammy, not Golden Globe.

Only 12 lifetime members of the entertainment community have received this. Whoopi is one of the 12. Clink the link. Some prestigious list.

  73. Whoopi may be a fine actress and comedian as evidenced by the numerous awards she's received, but she's not good for live TV, not a good moderator for a talk show, not a good political commentator. The View is not the right fit for her.

  75. Hallie... Whoopi may be a fine actress and comedian as evidenced by the numerous awards she's received,

Im not sure that Whoopi wins those awards for her acting abilities but for who she is. She was one of the first "stars" that was also African-American, but that doesnt equate talent. She has said many times that she is proud that she slept her way to the top..... not in those exact words maybe, but she likes to share her past escapades.
One thing that might help to prove my point.... The View got its first Daytime Emmy on Whoopi's first year..... Did Whoopi improve that show that much... or did she do enough "back scratching" to get the award?

Id go see Whoopi's comic show, but I doubt Id pay to go..... Id probably heckle her as well :-[

    ReplyDelete
  76. By my posting some info about Whoopi's awards - please dont take that as my backtracking about her heinous inadequacies as View host and this lastest Mel defense . No way! I just felt like posting it almost as an scratch my head answer as to how in the hell she got The View gig in the first place. What Walters thought she was getting by hiring her: a credentialed, accomplished, rare breed of classy talent.

  83. Lets see if I can make sense of this post.

Laura Ingrahm was trying to make the argument of Michelle Obama's garden and her working for "exercise for children" as being a distraction from bad things going on today.

I see Whoopi's rant as doing the same thing...... Their big argument was "poor Mel Gibson" even though we have heard the tapes, we dont know if it is really him. (I know it is him... I have heard him talk before)..... their secondary argument... and the one getting lost is this...... The victim is a terrible person because she "leaked the tape" She is just a golddigger after Mel Gibson's money.

Why is this anti woman argument being ignored and by not talking about it approved? Shouldnt NOW step forward and explain to the ladies on The View how their stance is bad for women?..... So many anti woman issues and NOW stays silent.

  107. I'll go with it was a different time when Laura Bush killed her ex-boyfriend in a car accident. For a lot of different reasons. Not right, but at the time....she was very young, it was not intentional. She came from a "good family" - not a particularly prominent family. That was the way it was, back then. I think she has always suffered from this life-defining moment. Still does. Who wouldn't?

Inattention, like current talking on cells, texting, groups of teens in a car, it can happen.

Thing is - that was then, this is now - the media was different then, now it is 24/7/365.

Now, IIRC - Laura presented this heartache in her book - it was not commented by democrats before because she was not OMG a democrat.

BTW - I am a staunch Dem but I always liked Laura, and admire her now coming into her own now that she is no longer FLOTUS and able to have her own voice.

The only motive that I see from Obama is he is trying to fix the mess that was left to him...... the rich are gonna have to start paying their fair share..... so those same people are gonna get on TV and tell people like you that the end is near...... if they have to pay their fair share of taxes the world will come to an end..... dont believe the hype.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DGhMnWSJs8U

According to the book, a copy of which has been obtained by The New York Times, 17-year-old Laura Welch (Bush's maiden name) was driving her father's Chevrolet Impala with a girlfriend as passenger, rushing to a drive-in movie when she ran a stop sign and hit the car being driven by her school's star athlete, Mike Douglas.

"In those awful seconds, the car door must have been flung open by the impact and my body rose in the air until gravity took over and I was pulled, hard and fast, back to earth," she writes, according to The Times. Later, she says, "I was praying that the person in the other car was alive. In my mind, I was calling 'Please, God. Please, God. Please, God,' over and over and over again."

RELATED: Laura Bush: 'I Didn't Realize the Impact the First Lady Can Have'
Bush blames the accident on the fact that she and her friend were talking in the car, the road was pitch black, the intersection was dangerous, the stop sign was small and Douglas's car was unsafe.

She says her guilt was compounded by the fact that she slept through the victim's funeral – after his parents had said they did not want her to attend it. She is also sorry that she never reached out to the parents afterward, though the sound of Douglas's mother crying, heard through the thin curtain in the emergency room, has remained with her.

  122. One of my favorite scenes in all of cinema - Gorgeous Burt Reynolds, damn Republican Jon Voight - and Billy Redden - the banjo boy.

“Anyone know where the banjo boy lives?”

They finally found him in Dillard. Redden, who is now forty-seven, works ten-hour days as a cook and dishwasher at the nearby Cookie Jar Café, and he was hesitant at first about taking time off to appear in another film. For one thing, he had always regretted being the poster boy for “Deliverance” ’s Gothic view of rural America. For another, he hadn’t enjoyed working with the film’s star, Burt Reynolds. “Burt didn’t want to say nothing to nobody,” Redden says now. “He wasn’t polite. And he made us look real bad—he said on television that all people in Rabun County do is watch cars go by and spit.”

What’s more, Redden’s relationship to banjos remained complicated. For starters, he didn’t know how to play. John Boorman, the director of “Deliverance,” had presented him with the instrument he used in the scene, declaring, “You pick a mean banjo!” Redden had always treasured the remark, particularly because—after he proved unable to convincingly fake the left-hand fretwork—Boorman had had to deploy another boy to hide behind the swing and slip his hand through Redden’s sleeve to finger the changes. But Redden’s mother, a custodial worker, had promptly sold the banjo. “I told her, ‘I’m not mad,’ ” Redden says. “My daddy had died when I was a baby, and she needed the money so bad for bills. It did mean something to me, though, that banjo.”

  125. Once again - Whoopi hates to be criticized for her views. She seems to covet the Dick's of the world - ie. Cheney - old fat white boys. Speaking of which - he's having heart surgery - hope they can find it. :-$

Huffington Post has an excerpt and video clip of LI and her book. Can't imagine why anyone would buy it let alone read it. Looks ridiculous.

  127. Whoopi is foul-mouthed and has no logic to anything she says. Behar is a crass, cynical woman who spews hatred in the form of so-called jokes. If they can't take the heat from Laura Ingrahan, then don't invite her on the show. Her book which is right-on with the truth about the Obama's will fly off the shelves. It is ingenious of her to write these truths using parody! At least she is a real person and very honest with her beliefs as opposed the phonies on the view. She has strong conservative values and these are to be admired.
